FREE FEATURES
*67 CALLER ID BLOCKING
This feature allows you to block your telephone number from being displayed to the person you are calling. You can purchase a feature to utilize a similar feature for all calls, but this free feature allows you to block calls individually. Just dial * 6 7 before placing your call.
211 HELPLINE
Dial 2 1 1 for access to information and referral for health and human services, including information and referral to food pantries, emergency shelters, affordable child care, medical and health assistance, employment assistance, transportation, rent/mortgage & utility payment assistance, help during times of disasters and other services. 211 information and referral is free, confidential and available 24 hours a day.
611 PULASKI/WHITE
Just dial 6 1 1 from your Star City or Buffalo telephone (595 or 278 prefix) and you will be speaking to one of our customer service representatives.
711 RELAY INDIANA
Relay Indiana provides full telephone accessibility for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired. Relay Indiana is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
There is no charge for the service. Funding for the relay program is provided by a surcharge on each telephone line in the State of Indiana. Local calls are provided free of charge. The charge for long distance calls will appear on your bill.
Dial 7 1 1 to get connected.
811 KNOW WHAT’S BELOW. CALL BEFORE YOU DIG.
In Indiana, you are required to call two working days before you dig. One easy phone call to 811 gets the approximate location of underground utility lines marked at no charge. 811 is the FCC designated national number that quickly and easily begins the process of getting underground lines marked as the first step in any digging project. Calling this number will reach all of the affected utilities.
Knowing where your lines are buried before each digging project helps protect you from injury, expense and penalties. The depth of utility lines vary and multiple utility lines may exist in the same area. Simple digging jobs can damage lines that can disrupt service to an entire neighborhood.
TOLL-FREE NUMBER
Make it easy for family and friends to call you from anywhere by getting a Toll Free Number. This service is provided at no charge; you pay only the long distance charge per call.
BLOCKING OPTIONS
If you want these blocking features, you need to request that they be added to your service, but they are provided at no charge.
- 900 Block blocks anyone from dialing a 1+900 number. These numbers are normally related to adult information and can be very costly.
- 3rd Number Block blocks anyone from placing an operator assistance call to another telephone number and having the long distance charges billed to your telephone number. Without this feature these calls can be made without your knowledge until you receive the bill.
- Collect Call Block blocks anyone from placing a collect call to your home. In order to accept a collect call that is coming from an institution (hospital, school, jail or prison), you must contact the institution, then remove your collect call blocking to accept this call.
DO-NOT-CALL REGISTRY
Indiana residents can register their home phone numbers on the state’s Do Not Call list at any time. The service is free and easy to use. You can register any residential phone number listed in your name to the privacy list twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week by calling 888.834.9969. You can also go to the website of the Indiana Attorney General to register online: www.in.gov/attorneygeneral. Once your phone number has been added to the list there is no need to re-register. However, you would need to update your registration if your phone number or address changes. You can remove your number from the list at any time.
Most telemarketers are forbidden from calling numbers on the state’s privacy list. There are four types of telephone solicitors who are exempt from this law and may continue to contact you. These include charitable organizations (whose calls are made by volunteers or employees), newspapers (whose employees make their telephone calls) and licensed insurance and real estate agents. Indiana law does not allow companies with existing business relationships to make calls to you unless you have provided your permission to do so.
Indiana citizens may also register with the National Do Not Call list. This service is also free. Your number remains on this list for only five years, and then you must renew. For more information visit http://www.donotcall.gov or call 888.382.1222. Please note that if you register on the state’s site, you do not need to register on the national site as well.
