NewCookbooks

Cookbooks can still be found around the community, and they will be sold at the Winter Wonderland in downtown Winamac on Saturday, December 5. Find them at the Historical Society booth in the Vurpillat Building.

NewHistory Books

The history books will be put together in the last months of 2009, and at some point, hopefully early in 2010, we will be annoucing options for purchase.

What's Next?

Well............no one thinks this momentum can be kept up annually, but the leadership of this committee is looking for ideas. Some things batted around:

  • Definitely something to give back to the community. (In 1959, among other things, the community got a fire station!)
  • Something every year to put money away for a big shindig in 5, 10, 25 or 50 years.
  • Something on a smaller scale for 1 - 1 1/2 days every year.
  • Absolutely nothing for another 50 years (this from the folks that are the most tired!)

What is certain is that the leadership is looking for ideas, and they are looking for young, energetic individuals in Van Buren, Harrison & Indian Creek Township that are willing to put some of these ideas into motion.

For lack of knowing what else to do, if you have ideas, contact me.......see above.........

How Many People Came?

We haven't had a handle on how many people came, only that a LOT of people were in town for those three days. Food vendors ran out of food, food events ran out of food (the Church's fish fry, the Lion's Pancake Breakfast...). We also know that not everyone made it to the museum, but those who did were asked to sign in. Millie Redweik is known for her good ideas. This was one of them! She counted those who signed in, and there are over 2,000 names!
